Opened in 1992, Alcaidesa Links hosted the junior Ryder Cup between young European and American talents in 1997. Alcaidesa Links, designed by Peter Alliss (the well known former golf professional and popular BBC Golf commentator) and Clive Clark, is pleasantly different from most other golf courses and worth a visit.

  Club de Golf Valderrama

The place where Europe won the Ryder-Cup in 1997. Venue of the final, mostly decisive, tournament on the European PGA Tour throughout the nineties and the World Stroke Play Championships 1999 (won by Tiger Woods), 2000 and 2002.

Valderrama (1975), owned by Jaime Ortiz Patiño, designed by Robert Trent Jones and Seve Ballesteros who redesigned the controversial par five 17th (remember Tiger Woods in 1999 and 2000), has provided the world of golf with numerous dramatic moments of golf history over the past ten years.

Valderrama is regarded as Europe's number one golf course and among the best in the world. Described as being thrilling and breathtaking by world's top players, this course is extremely difficult. Strategic play is required for each single shot in order not find yourself out of position in one of the water hazards or behind a cork-oak tree.

The 9-hole par 3 course is one of the most exciting and spectacular short courses in the world. Although wonderful Valderrama is a private golf course, visitors are usually absolutely welcome if they book in advance.

  Guadalmina Club de Golf

Guadalmina is a popular and active golf club providing two 18-hole golf courses and a 9-hole practise course. Founded in 1959, the course is located 1 kilometre west of San Pedro de Alcantara. Guadalmina is partially characterized by reasonably wide undulated fairways sweeping through recently developed urbanization's and villas.

Guadalmina Norte, opened in 1975 and designed by Folco Nardi, is probably the easier of the two courses although the fairways are more undulated and there are more water hazards and trees involved.

Guadalmina Sur was opened in 1959. This course, designed by Javier Arana, is after Parador Malaga del Golf the oldest course at the Costa del Sol. The wide fairways and raised greens stretch out towards the beach.

Construction of the luxurious new Guadalmina hotel, located right at the beach (see top image), recently finished. When you are not a fourball, booking a tee-off time is far from easy on this course!

  Rio Real Golf Hotel

This well-established golf course is nicely looked upon from the N340 just East of Marbella. This view effectively forges the stream of impatient golf tourists, arriving in this famous golf area, to run faster.

The relatively flat course, designed by the reputable Javier Arana, opened in 1965 and is a pleasure to visit. A couple of holes do have considerable differences in height (Par three 13 th). Most of the fairways are separated from each other by matured trees providing the course its own character. The river Rio Real crosses the course on several points, which makes this little natural water hazard well in play.

The new clubhouse has a large terrace with great views over the course. Since 2000 Rio Real also offers Hotel facilities straight at the course.

  Cabopino Golf

Cabopino Golf opened it's doors in April 2001. The course is located west of Cabopino between Marbella and Fuengirola just off the N340.

The spectacular Cabopino golf course is situated in a wooded area and swirls towards a quite undulated area (a buggy is required). More landinward it breaths a rustique atmosphere away from traffic and tourism.

Well designed lakes will test your accuracy from the tee and add to the already wonderful views, specifically towards the ocean. Thanks to the variety this course offers and the easy access from the N340 this course will soon be among the most popular ones on the coast.

  Lauro Golf

Opened in 1991 Lauro Golf is situated in the Sierra de Mijas. A beautiful area with rather gentle slopes land inwards between Malaga and Torremolinos.

The Italian designer Folco Nardi designed the course. An original feature of this very active golf course is that each hole is named after a bullfighter! It has all characteristics of a Spanish parkland course with its orange, lemon and olive trees. Especially the olive trees can cause some awkward ball positions if you are not accurate enough. For those among us who are terrified by water hazards, be aware!

An extra 9 holes on the other side of the C-344 opened in 2002.

The clubhouse is established in a 200-year-old cortijo (Andalucian Farmhouse). Lauro Golf is located west of Alhaurin de la Torre towards Alhaurin el Grande.

  Mijas Golf

During the last decade, Mijas Golf has become one of the most popular golf complexes in Europe, known by the outstanding condition of their courses and the friendly atmosphere and excellent service provided to the clients.

The courses, Los Lagos and Los Olivos, are situated in the valley of Mijas, north of Fuengirola, only twenty minutes from the Málaga international airport and 3.5 kms. from the sea.

Los Lagos was the first course to be constructed under the direction of Mateo Pérez Robles, one of the pioneers of the tourist industry on the Costa del Sol. This course presents wide fairways, with numerous lakes -hence its name-, the water hazards which one finds at the 9th and 18th holes and also the many trees which are strategically placed to protect the large greens.

The excellent economical situation and the good results, created the favourable atmosphere to build the new course, Los Olivos.

Los Olivos was constructed originally between 1983-1984, although it has recently been totally refurbished. This course lies in a smaller peace of land, and has different characteristics to his brother. The greens are smaller with undulations and well protected by bunkers. Also, it has a large number of olive trees strategically situated around the fairways, which demand a strong and straight drive from the player.

Both courses pay homage to the architect's philosophy "difficult Par, easy Bogey" -, with very little rough, plenty of water and relatively flat.

The Club House is an old Andalusian cortijo (farmhouse), and beside it, one can feel the continual buzz on the terraces of the Restaurant, where the variety of our clientele can be noticed; Mijas Golf has managed to mix, with success, the residents on the area with visitors from all over the world.

  The San Roque Club

Since it first opened, The San Roque Club has been one of southern Spain's most exclusive resorts. The centrepiece is a magnificent mansion, formerly the home of the Domecq sherry dynasty.

Among cobbled courtyards and Moorish arcades, the 50 rooms and 50 hacienda-style suites employ the local materials - stone, terracotta, oak and cork - to create a luxurious but distinctively Andalucian style. Members enjoy preferred access to these unique facilities.

Here there are all the outstanding facilities and services you would expect from a member of the elite Preferred Hotels and Resorts, World Wide. Dining options include Bolero, the flagship restaurant, serving food that fuses the traditional tastes of Andalucia with the finest regional Spanish influences.

For something more exotic, there's Kamakura, probably Spain's best and most authentic Japanese restaurant offering the freshest sushi and sashimi, tempura and teppanyaki dishes. Buganvilla, meanwhile is a summer poolside al fresco restaurant for the balmy nights - and there are plenty of them: this part of Spain enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine each year.

  Estepona Golf

Estepona Golf is privately owned by David and Rory Leader. Their policy is to concentrate on visiting golfers as a 'pay as you play' course.

The 18 hole course, which is located on the inland side of the main coastal road at Km. 150, just one mile from Estepona town centre, was designed by Jose Luis Lopez and first opened in 1989. The design uses the natural landscape which is set against the Sierra Bermeja mountain range, and enjoys sea views from most parts of the course. The fairways are wide and the greens large which provides a challenge for players of all levels, but doesn't penalise the average golfer.

Playing the front nine you'll have the pleasure to play the longest hole in Spain, our third hole, a par 5 called the Ski Run which measures 568 metres from the white tees.

There are many palms, eucalyptus and wild olive trees on the course, and players have a great opportunity to enjoy many rare species of wildlife, particularly on the second half.

Players who are unaccustomed to the warmer temperatures and terrain are always welcome to rent one of our 40 new Club Cars. Alternatively, trolleys are available for hire.

Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club

Los Arqueros is located in the hills approximately 5 kilometres north of San Pedro de Alcántara towards Ronda. Seve Ballesteros, who designed this course and marked himself by placing a bunker in the form of a 'S' (Seve) on the 9th, made a superb job of putting a golf course together that frightens even the most experienced golfer as plenty fairways border steep ravens. If not, then you will be confronted with several streams and well-placed water hazards.

Los Arqueros had a difficult start after it opened in 1991. Now, after being taken over by English Taylor Woodrow, it has developed quickly into a very popular golf course where reckless play will be severely punished and accuracy is highly required.

Enjoy the superb views over the Andalusian hills and the Mediterranean Sea in the enviable, tranquil setting of Los Arqueros.

Santa Maria Golf & Country Club

Los Arqueros is located in the hills approximately 5 kilometres north of San Pedro de Alcántara towards Ronda. If not, then you will be confronted with several streams and well-placed water hazards.

Opened in 1991 Santa María Golf previously was a 9-hole course designed by Antonio García Garrido. After finishing the second nine, designed by it's own technical staff, 5 years later in 1996 the course is know sited in two valleys in the hills in a surrounding with beautiful views. The course is not too difficult to play with its wide fairways particularly on the back nine.

Besides golf, the Santa María Resort offers other facilities like tennis courts, swimming pools and the Santa María Bowls Club, an official bowls club.

  Alhaurin Golf & Country Club

Alhaurin Golf, designed by Seve Ballesteros located near Mijas at the Costa del Sol in the Malaga region, has developed itself into an ambitious resort offering 45 holes. An 18 holes par 72 course, an 18 holes pitch & put course and a spectacular 9 holes par 3 course.

Alhaurin used to have a reputation as being unfair. The hilly character, small fairways and steep ravines were a little too punishing. Reasonably good strokes could end up in unexpected positions. Widening fairways and redesigning both greens and bunkers in 1996 changed this course, with six tee boxes on each hole, into a definite fair challenge for everyone.

Alhaurin Golf has colorful vegetation and provides lots of spectacular scenery views over the Andalusian hills and towards the lake in the valley.

Part of the resort is the hotel which offers swimming, tennis and horse riding facilities. The new clubhouse opened in 2001. Alhaurin is situated between Mijas and Alhaurin el Grande.

  Real Club de Golf Sotogrande

First European course designed by Robert Trent Jones and rated among the 100 best courses in the world since its foundation (1964). The course championship distance is 6224 metres, par 72 and SSS 74 on its longest distance. Although the course has wide fairways and very little semi rough on its fairways, its lakes, fast greens and the strong winds in this area make it a real challenge to the best of players.

Real Club de Golf Sotogrande´s golf architect, Robert Trent Jones, once described a golf course as a battleground: the players attack the course, and it is the architect´s obligation to defend it. And defend our course he had, by means of strategically placed bunkers, water hazards, rough and the general layout of the course itself, as well as having holes of great beauty such as the seventh and twelfth. Therefore, when you step out onto the first tee, prepare to assume the offensive.

This booklet has been prepared as your map of the terrain, to help you know the course better, judge its distances and other physical characteristics more accurate, and enable you to plan your game intelligently. Use it to play position golf and save yourself vital strokes.

  Marbella Golf & Country Club

Heaven for the real golf fanatic! La Dama de Noche, Europe's first golf course with a strategically placed lighting system, provides golf 24 hours a day through after dark illumination!

After a couple of holes, however, the course, designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1990, transforms to more reasonable standards but will still require all your attention. The 6th hole (par 5) is one of the most spectacular we ever played (see top picture). From the tee you are able to drive on two different plateaus. Go for the right elevated plateau. from here you will have a clear view to the green. A stream crosses the fairway twice which makes the second stroke tricky. The relatively small green is protected by severe bushes at the hilly back and a lake in front of it.

From both the terrace of the luxurious clubhouse and the course you will enjoy some superb panoramic views over the sea and Marbella while the large undulated greens are a pleasure on their own right. Golf Club Marbella is located about 5 kilometers east of Marbella.

Real Club de Campo de Malaga

Parador Málaga del Golf has a history that goes back to 1925 when it was founded by the Spanish Royal Family.

Parador Málaga del Golf, the oldest course in Andalucía, was designed by Tom Simpson who is particularly known for designing the famous golf courses Turnberry and Muirfield in Scotland.

This Championship course can be described as partly a links course and partly a parkland course. It's here where you will enjoy a multitude of exotic parakeets if you're lucky! The course has it's own character compared to most other courses at the coast and it is both a challenge for the experienced golfer and kindly for the less experienced between us.

The course is still owned by the state and part of the Parador.

  Los Naranjos Golf Club

Los Naranjos, founded in 1977, represents a typically Robert Trent Jones designed golf course with many elevated teeboxes and large undulated greens.

Surrounded by many orange trees this course plays reasonably long and is definitely not easy. The intimidating 18th hole finishes in American style towards an elevated green protected by a water hazard in front of it. The impressive clubhouse behind the hole adds to the atmosphere.

Los Naranjos is sited in the Golf Valley near Marbella and is especially popular by people from Scandinavia. The majestic Andalucian style clubhouse and the challenging holes make this private course, open for visitors, a delight to visit.
